Phytochemical and Antibiofilm Activity of Aloe barbadensismiller (Aloe vera) on Candida albicans Isolated from Urinary Catheter
نویسندگان
چکیده
Aims: To screen for phytochemicals present in Aloe barbadensismiller (Aloe vera) growing within the Main Campus of Nasarawa State University Keffi (NSUK), determine biofilm forming ability, and to investigate antibiofilm activity plant extracts on formed by clinical isolates Candida isolated from urinary catheters.
Study Design: The leaf vera were collected maceration method was used extract materials screening bioactive components. Swab samples surfaces patients’ catheters presenting at Federal Medical Centre Nagari Hospital, respectively, irrespective their ages sexes. Biofilm ability investigated determined. Ordinary one-way ANOVA analyze data where P = .05.
Place Duration Study: research carried out Microbiology Laboratory NSUK, using community analysis conducted National Veterinary Research Institute, Vom Plateau State, between October 2018 March 2019.
Methodology: Both aqueous ethanolic screened aloin, tannins, saponins, glycosides, flavonoids, phenols, alkaloids etc, species subjected formation a flat bottom 96-well microtiter polystyrene plate crystal violet assay. Broth microdilution minimum inhibitory concentrations (MIC) whereas, biofilms presence extracts.
Results: tannin, reducing sugars aloin found while alkaloid, flavonoid, glycoside, sugars, terpenoids, quinones extract. Clinical be strong formers (70%). had significant effects initial cell attachment .05, however, none able achieve complete eradication, including positive control ketoconazole. Ethanolic inhibits C. albicans 54.25%, 25.68% ketoconazole has 48.54% percentage inhibition, respectively. Interestingly, showed better property (37.38%) compared that 33.98% inhibition.
Conclusion: significantly reduced Candida. Coating with A. can decrease nosocomial infections, morbidity, high mortality as well financial burden, hence, serving an alternative treatment tract infections.
